11/17/22 Important update regarding Nomination Meeting

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THE MEETING TONIGHT

We are still having the meeting at 7pm tonight. The meeting is still going to be a hybrid in-person/Zoom meeting. the meeting will educate members on the election process and give members the opportunity to ask questions.

As you may remember, a local 714 member contested the election that was held on June 28th, 2022. the elections committee investigated the claims by the member, and concluded their investigation. The election committee then provided the local with their reported findings on october 27th, 2022. the member had 10 days to appeal the findings from the election committee.

the member exercised their right to file an appeal with the international afscme judicial panel on November 5th, 2022. as a result of this appeal, the local was instructed today, november 17, 2022, to  SUSPEND ANY FURTHER NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS UNTIL THE ELIGBILITY CHALLENGE AND ELECTION PROTEST INVESTIGATION IS COMPLETED, FOLLOWING A WRITTEN DECISION BY THE INVESTIGATING OFFICER. Per the letter from afscme international, the investigation will occur, monday, november 28th, 2022, at 10 am. a written decision will be provided within 30 days of the date of the investigation.

Please note, this means that the current officers remain in their positions.

Nominations will not take place at tonights meeting. the election will not be held on November 29th, 2022.

the local encourages members to attend the meeting tonight to understand the election process, the challenge process, and the appeals process.
